What is water reducing agent?
Concrete admixtures are ingredients in the form of powder or liquid. They are added to the concrete matrix during mixing, which can modify the concrete quality in accordance with the requirements. Concrete admixtures has an application history about 70 years. Dating back to ancient times, animal blood, egg white, tung oil, glutinous rice juice were used as admixtures in the construction of The Great Wall and Roman Colosseum. Water reducing agents are one of the most widely used, other types like air entraining agent, set retarder, expanding admixture, etc. are used together with water reducing agent as auxiliary additive.
With the development of high performance concrete (HPC) technology, concrete water reducing agent has been widely used as one of the indispensable components of concrete. Concrete water reducing agent can be defined as the admixtures that can keep concrete slump unchanged and reduce its mixing amount. Concrete water reducing agent is surfactant. With the aid of polarity adsorption and exclusion effect, concrete water reducing agent can reduce the attraction between the cement particles and dispersoid, so as to achieve the effect of water reducing, so it is also called a dispersant (dispersion agent) or super plasticizer.
Three stages of water reducing agent
Water reducing agent has gone through three stages. The first generation is ordinary water reducing agent, which is represented by lignosulfonate; the second generation is high efficiency water reducing agent, naphthalene series are the main representatives, such as naphthalene sulfonate, sulfonated melamine, aliphatic, amino sulfonate; the third generation is high performance water reducing agent, and the main representatives are carboxylic series. At present, the water reducing agent market is mainly based on the second generation, co-exist with the third generation.

Concrete water reducing agent sodium lignosulfonate(CAS 8061-51-6) is powdery, low air entraining property, retarding and water reducing agent. Sodium lignosulfonate belongs to anionic surfactant，has adsorption and dispersion effect on cement, can improve all kinds of physical properties of concrete. Sodium lignosulfonate(CAS 8061-51-6) can reduce water consumption by more than 13%, improve the workability of concrete, and also greatly reduce the hydration heat in the early hydration stage of cement. It can be compounded into early strength agent, retarder, antifreeze, pumping agent, etc. The liquid admixture made with the superplasticizer of naphthalene series has little precipitation.
Dispersing agent mf(CAS 9084-06-4) is soluble in concrete and used as a strong water reducing agent，it can shorten the construction period, save cement, save water, and increase the strength of cement.
